Canberra

We made the decision to get to our housesit in Bilpin in the Blue Mountains via Canberra rather than continuing along the coast. I wanted to walk through the flower festival - Floriade. I probably wouldn't get to another one in a hurry and I had read and heard all about it. Even though it was a rainy day it was well worth the visit. The flowers were beautiful. We also couldn't get over the perfect bonsai trees that were displayed.
There didn't seem to be a single vacant spot in a caravan park so we stayed at the exhibition centre which is a huge park with everything set up for campers and caravans. Lo and behold, we happened to park directly opposite one of my friends, Katrine, from St Anthonys - a random meeting. It was quite amazing as the last place I had a random meeting with a friend was at Uluru!
Canberra seemed to be a lovely town with neat, wide roads, well sign posted and laid out. There are beautiful parks and gardens everywhere. We also went to the best farmers' market we have ever been to and stocked up with the best fruit and vegies as well as sampling all sorts of cheese, nuts and some Dutch sticky biscuits. All too hard to resist.
We visited The Houses of Parliament, The War Memorial and The National Portrait Gallery.
All were amazing in their own way - the design of the buildings including the contents of all.
We are planning on returning after Bilpin as Chris wants to see our politicians in action. I have warned him that if he heckles he will be thrown out!!
