We didn't do too much exploring around Cairns as we used it as a base to prepare ourselves for Cape York....which was most definitely the right thing. We found everything we needed in Cairns -all the upgrades to the car and good supermarket shopping. Free wifi was available where we did our shopping so a fair few coffees were had whilst downloading updates needed for our devices.
One evening we walked along the front which has an amazing boardwalk.....with a few great exercise stations along the way. (We didn't use any!) We popped into the foodhall at the market...and oh, how Granmere would have loved all the Chinese food! We resisted because of all the gluten but had fun looking.
We really enjoyed the laid back, cosmopolitan vibe in Cairns. Not sure about the wet season though!!
