Along the Murray to Echuca

The landscape has changed!
We have chosen to follow the Murray through NSW and VIC. No more lush, green forests, mountains, rolling hills and sparkling, blue oceans. Everything is flat and the river is brown ...though, along the way are beautiful Red Gums, world heritage wetlands (Barmah National Park), restored towns like Chiltern and Rutherglen, and, of course, the paddle steamers restored from the early 1900's in Echuca......and the sound of birds everywhere.
We stopped to have a look at the Hume Dam which controls the flow of water into the whole of the Murray Darling river system. This keeps the river flowing continuously.
We stayed in a lovely caravan park close to the river in Echuca where we could hear the horn of the paddle steamers passing by. We went up the river on PS The Canberra which was lovely and restful. Echuca is great for riding so we used our bikes to do some exploring of the old port. It's a very clean, inviting town and has a lovely main street which I explored on my own while Chris cleaned the car.
The Courthouse Hotel was in a little town along the way called Nathalia.
