Nimbin

Nimbin  is a place I have wanted to visit. We drove through Lismore and the surrounding hills and windy roads and found the Nimbin showground - a great field where we set up home for 5 days. We never planned on staying that long but it was so peaceful camping surrounded by hills and gorgeous freshly mowed, lush green grass.

Each morning we woke up we were surrounded by mist but very quickly it lifted and the temperature rose to that of a warm summer's day. The caretaker, Phil, was a very kind, helpful man and really tries hard keeping the fields around the showground in good order for travellers wanting to visit Nimbin.
The town is filled with all sorts of alternative people, obviously passionate about their individual causes...

It's a place where "Hippie" culture thrives - it's almost like living in a time warp! The population consists of young and old - from "baby hippies" to "long, grey  haired hippies"......

Sadly, a part of the population are drug sellers....not my cup of tea.....but such is Nimbin. I loved the rest.
Chris had fun helping a neighbour in a bus repair his solar cell system, and I enjoyed chatting to a young "hippie" mum who walked her dogs on the field with her 2 little boys. One was named Javarin and the other was called Ocean Tide. She filled me in on all the goings on in Nimbin.....some good and some not so good!
I loved walking around the very real farmers' market, buying vegetables that had just been picked and meeting some interesting people...and observing some equally interesting people!
We loved visiting the candle factory and also going for a drive into the mountains to visit the Nightcap National Park where we walked through a piece of protected rain forest to the Protestor Falls which were beautiful. We both love discovering a waterfall.

The outlying areas of Nimbin are just gorgeous. I think I could live here.....
We were very sad to leave our field.....

Our neighbour Chris spent helping with his solar panels. His bus and trike.

Our last morning in our field.
