Cooktown

Cooktown is about 80 km east of Lakeland where we repacked our caravan and cleaned our car. Driving to Cooktown was like driving on the BEST highway in the world after all the gravel we had just left behind.
Cooktown is normally a very windy place but for the 2 days we were there it was so calm. Cooktown was a picture. We were most pleasantly surprised. It is very historic with its old buildings and landmarks of Captain Cook and crew. It is a beautiful place.....though, I'd say, because of its remoteness we came across a few strange people......but we were only visiting as most others are who come to Cooktown.

The anchor of the Endeavour.

Everything is lush around Cooktown.

A local beach but of course no swimming because of the crocs.

This is where the Aboriginal artists have got their ideas. (Chris says.)

Beautiful paperbarks in the caravan park.

Our neatly, repacked car.

Oh, the highway!!!

Outside the famous Lions Den Pub on the way back from Cooktown to Mt Surprise.

A lovely place to stay.

Backpackers everywhere.
