Images around the top of Cape York

Imagico, Injinoo, Seisa, New Mapoon and Bamaga are the small areas around the north of Cape York which are mostly inhabited by Aborigines. Visitors in the form of 4 wd owners from all over the rest of Australia are all over the place. Most occupations would be based around tourism and fishing. I am sure mechanics do well too. Rescuing 4wds from the creeks would be good business. A camping neighbour set up camp and I soon found out that their car had been rescued from Nolans Brook - a notoriously deep creek crossing- and was being written off. 43 vehicles were already casualties this season!! I was surprised at the availability of fresh fruit and vegetables in the main supermarket in Bamaga. A barge from Cairns arrives each Monday and Friday bringing fresh supplies. It's not the kind of place we are used to obviously because of the harsh environment and the wet season which runs from September to April each year. Not many tourists at this time! There are strict alcohol restrictions in these areas so scenes like we have seen in Katherine in the NT are not too evident. People are very helpful and everyone is always willing to help out if things go wrong. It would be the only way in such an environment.
Entry to the diesel tank.

$2.30 a litre!

Someone's roof rack!

Anthills in the area.

Beach at Umagico where we should have stayed as there was
a beautiful camp site - by Cape York standards - nearby.
Not sure there will be a next time. It's a harsh environment!

Beach and views of the islands all around the north of
Australia. No swimming though because of the crocs.

Wild horses all over the place.

I popped in here for some milk, lettuce and fruit. It was
very expensive.
